      Itinerary

      Day 1

      SA-WA-DEE THAILAND!

Welcome to Bangkok, the turbo-charged capital and epicenter of modern Thailand. The city’s sights, sounds, and smells will welcome you into the country with open arms. Arrive anytime (we can help recommend flights), and we’ll be at the Suvarnabhumi International Airport ready to pick you up. Consider a quick visit at one of Bangkok’s local sights, like the impressive Grand Palace, or a snack in the neon-drenched Chinatown neighborhood before meeting the rest of the group for dinner and a breakdown of what’s to come.

      Day 2

      ALL ABOUT BANGKOK

Today, we’ll immerse ourselves in the culture of Bangkok. From the sprawling green spaces like Lumpini Park and Sukhumvit’s glitzy shopping and dining areas to the most iconic Buddhist temples – these are the places locals love. You’ll learn about Buddhism, creative arts, Sepak Takraw (a volleyball/kickboxing hybrid), and more from our local guide, all while enjoying the spectacular city. Soak in the deep red sunset behind Wat Arun, the temple of dawn, as we dine near the lifeline of Bangkok, the Chao Phraya River.

      Day 3

      TUK-TUK TOUR + BUDDHIST PILGRIMAGES

We start our morning with a short flight to the temperate Northern Thai mountains of Chiang Mai. This ancient city is steeped in history, and we’re starting with one of its most iconic sights – Doi Suthep. The gleaming mountain temple is the most important in Chiang Mai and offers stunning views from the staircase summit. Later, a change of scene as you rocket through the “old town” neighborhood via tuk-tuk to essential landmarks, stone temples, and, most importantly, Warorot Night Market for local street food.

      Day 4

      HMONG CULTURE

Today, you will venture into the scenic Mae Sa Valley to better understand the Hmong culture of Southeast Asia. This indigenous hill tribe is easily accessible from Chiang Mai, but we won’t just be traveling by car. Expect a gorgeous trek through rolling valleys as we learn about the area’s farming practices and explore the Ban Mae Sa Mai Village, the largest Hmong-populated area in Thailand. It’s a fascinating insight into a completely different world and a great way to experience rural Thailand.

      Day 5

      EXPLORING CHIANG MAI

There are so many things to do in Chiang Mai and today you are free to explore your own interests in and around the city. Consider learning to make the perfect Pad Thai in an outdoor cooking class, pay a visit to Wat Suan Dok for one of their “monk chats” to better understand the Buddhist faith, hike up to Wat Pha Lat for unrivalled panoramic views of the city, take a day trip to the impressive Doi Inthanan National Park to see more temples, or simply hop from street market to street market, gorging on spicy lemongrass sausages and other northern Thai specialties.

      Day 6

      KHOA SOK NIGHT SAFARI

Today, we fly from Chiang Mai to Phuket and then hop on a bus for a short 2.5-hour journey to the wilderness of Khao Sok National Park. Here, you’ll find one of Thailand’s most pristine protected jungles, way off-the-beaten-path and missed by most travellers (not us though)! Within its boundaries, you can see Elephants, Malayan Sun Bears, Gibbons, Tapirs, Hornbills, and Clouded Leopards, to name a few. Tonight, after a long travel day, we embark on a nighttime safari to see if we can spot any elusive nocturnal species within the park.

      Day 7

      MEET THE MAHOUTS

Another day in the lush Thai wilderness! We’ll start with the long-awaited visit to the elephant sanctuary. During our time, you will learn about the traditional mahout communities and watch the elephants bathe in their natural environment. Your visit helps to support the ethical treatment of elephants in Thailand. Afterwards, you will take in the Khao Sok scenery from a different vantage point – the hull of a carefully guided bamboo raft. Travelling via river is the optimal way to enjoy the limestone cliffs and dense jungle while hoping to spot more wildlife.

      Day 8

      REJUVENATE IN KOH LANTA

A travel day lies ahead. But with an island paradise waiting on the other side, we promise it will be worth it. Expect to spend most of the day driving from Khao Sok to Koh Lanta. As we travel, we will pass through rural Thai landscapes on our way to Thailand’s most laid-back island (yes – we decided to skip the “tourist hotspots” for this lesser-known slice of paradise). Upon arrival, we will check into one of our favourite hotels/spas. Not only are the rooms comfortable, but it’s beachfront, sitting on the sand near one of the island’s very best beaches. Soak in the scenery and get ready for some island exploring in the days to come.

      Day 9

      TROPICAL ISLAND HOPPING

Koh Mook, Koh Kradan, Koh Cheuak, and Koh Ngai. These Andaman Islands are known for their crystalline turquoise waters and exceptional snorkeling. Today, we dive into all four of these diverse beachy paradises. We will cruise through Koh Lanta Marine Park and its spectacular scenery by speedboat – whether you’re an avid snorkeler or just prefer the fresh air and natural scenery, we’ve got you covered. This is the Thailand you dreamed of!

      Day 10

      DO YOUR THING

Idle or active, the choice is yours. Beach lovers will take advantage of our prime hotel location and spend a lazy day in the sand. But those who want to do some exploring can spend a day visiting Koh Phi Phi, known for its spectacular Maya Bay (featured in The Beach)? Or you could explore the Historic Old Town, cruising the slow, winding island roads on your own. Nature lovers can visit Koh Lanta National Park for monkey spotting and lush jungle hiking. The options on Koh Lanta are endless.

      Day 11

      GOODBYE LAND OF SMILES

It’s sadly time to part ways with this country and all your new travel friends. We’ve explored the best of Thailand from top to bottom, enjoying the modern metropolis of Bangkok, the temperate forests and temples of Chiang Mai, the jungles and wildlife of Khao Sok, and the laid-back paradise of the Koh Lanta. A perfect itinerary that spans the breadth of Thai culture, whether it’s your first visit or a return trip. With a better understanding of this incredible country and a camera full of photos, it’s time to return home. We’ll transfer you back to Krabi International Airport to begin your journey.

“Head and Shoulders Above the Rest”

Having been on numerous group holidays with more than 5 different companies, my standards are high and I can honestly say that Other Way Round is head and shoulders above all of them.

      “Not Mass Produced or Touristy”

What I loved about this trip was that it didn’t feel mass produced and touristy. There was a sense of originality to it and uniqueness about the trip and the itinerary.

      “Completely Hassle Free”

I usually travel DIY, where I arrange and book everything myself, and it was such a welcome change to have all that time and stress of booking the different elements of the trip taken away from me.

      “Trip of a Lifetime”

I will never forget this trip. Not only because of the country itself, but because of the experience that Other Way Round gave me and the other group members. It was a trip of a lifetime and you will be missing out if you don’t just book it!

      Important Notes

Am I a good fit for an OWR trip?

We know it’s important to you to choose the right tour company for you.

And equally, for us, it’s super important that we get the right people joining our trips (people who are likely to get the most out of it).

We’d therefore appreciate if you could please read the following page carefully before signing up: OWR Trip Style

      Are international flights included?

      No.

International flights are not included in the price of our tours. This is something you would book yourself seperately.

Which airports should I fly into?

Our trip starts in Bangkok, Suvarnabhumi International Airport is closest (BKK) and ends in Koh Lanta, whereby the nearest airport is Krabi International Airport (KBV). You should organise your flights accordingly.

You can arrive at any point on the first day.

You can leave at any time on the last day. There are no activities scheduled for that day.

If you need help researching flights, contact us at [email protected] or fill out the contact form on this page.

      Are airport transfers included?

Yes, they are included at both the start and end of every trip.

      Notes

      • We only do transfers between airports and our selected hotels. No other locations.
      • For those tagging on extra days, we will endeavour to include transfers up to 2 days outside of official tour dates.

Can I book a private room?

      Yes.

Our standard prices are based on sharing a twin hotel room with one other person of the same gender.

However, if you prefer a private then you can select this option for £580 / $730 extra.

Just let us know at the time of booking.

Can I book pre and/or post accommodation?

Yes, we can book you in for extra days at either our arrival hotel or departure hotel.

This is up to a maximum of 2 days on either side. If for longer, we suggest you book directly with the hotel.

Contact us at [email protected] for rates.

I’m traveling solo, will I be the only one?

      No.

Our trips are specifically designed for solo travelers so you will fit in perfectly.

Some people may bring a friend but the majority will always be traveling solo.

      How do I book?

You contact us either via the contact form on this site or by emailing us at [email protected].

You confirm your name, your age, which country you are based in and you tell us the destination and dates you would like to join.

We then send you an electronic invoice to collect your deposit payment.

To reserve a spot you pay a £200 / $250 deposit and then the remaining balance must be paid by 60 days before the trip.

If your booking is within 60 days, then you must pay the full balance at that point.

      Is the deposit refundable?

      No, the deposit is non-refundable.

However, if you can no longer make the trip you can transfer that deposit onto any other future trip.

      Do you have payment plans?

      Yes.

We can either split your balance into even monthly payments, or we can set it up so you can pay any smaller amounts as and when you like.

Just let us know at the time of booking.

      Visas, vaccinations & packing lists?

Two months before your trip you will receive a comprehensive pre-trip pack which tells you everything you need to get prepared for the trip (including info on visas, vaccinations & packing lists).

In general, most of our guests don’t need visas to come to Thailand when visiting for less than 30 days.

Do you cater for special dietary requirements?

      Yes.

We cater for vegetarian, vegan, gluten free and other dietary requirements. We will always make sure there are options available to you in the restaurants we visit.

Please be aware though that there will not likely be the same range of options as you have available in your home country.

Will I get to meet other members of the group before the trip?

      Yes.

In the week before the trip we will create a WhatsApp group with all the people joining the trip. This is a great opportunity to connect ahead of the trip.

Are the hotels listed on the website the actual hotels you use?

Generally yes, it will be these hotels.

From time to time we may need to change a specific hotel if for example it’s not available on those given dates. But in such situations, we will always replace with another hotel at the same quality.

      What’s the cancellation policy?

The £200/$250 deposit is non-refundable. However, if you need to cancel at any point, you can put this towards any future trip you book with us (in any location).

The rest of the balance is refundable up until two months before the trip. From that point we have to start committing funds to local suppliers and so:-

      > 30-60 days before trip – 50% refund

      > 0–30 days before trip – 0% refund

But, we also recommend that you take out travel insurance to cover you for any unexpected last-minute cancellation.
