Rupa’s OWR Morocco Journey: Finding Connection and Confidence in the Desert

Rupa dreamed of seeing the world with people who shared her curiosity and sense of adventure.

Traveling solo in her 40s wasn’t always easy, but joining our Morocco trip gave her the freedom to go without overthinking the logistics.

Why did you book the trip?

I wanted to travel the world with a group of like-minded individuals who were similar to my age. It is hard to be single in your 40s and make plans with family and friends without advance preparation and planning. This tour group allows me the flexibility to just go on my own and not have to worry about the logistics.

How did you feel as the trip approached?

I was a bit nervous and excited all at the same time. I have previously gone on a solo group tour and had a wonderful experience so was not hesitant to book. It was my first trip with OWR. I chose OWR because it provided various countries on my bucket list and the amount of time was what I wanted. The trip’s duration was perfect; not too short and not too long to become homesick.

How did you feel upon arrival?

I was very excited upon arrival as I knew that I would have a local tour guide who would help me navigate the country and be able to answer any questions or concerns that may arise throughout my time there.

Having a local tour guide was like having a personal concierge, which made the trip much easier, especially since traveling solo as a woman can be daunting.

How were the people you travelled with? And the tour leader?

The people I traveled with were amazing and I feel like I made a lot a lifelong friends. We actually are already planning another trip together soon.

Our tour guide was absolutely amazing. Younes was very knowledgeable, professional, fun, and caring. He made me feel very welcomed and he showed the pride and knowledge he had for his country. He loves his job and you can easily see it.

The hotels?  

The mix of riads and hotels was absolutely amazing. I was a bit scared about the night in the desert, but it was an awesome setup glamping.

I would say hands-down, it was my favorite accommodation and wished we had another night there actually.

Personal highlights for you

The women’s cooperative, the tannery, and the ceramic pottery tours were absolutely amazing and also a humbling experience. Each artisan was hard working and the attention to detail was incredible. At the cooperative, I loved seeing how women in this country are becoming independent and  bringing in income for their families.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of booking?

DO IT! Don’t think twice as it was absolutely worth it.
