Itinerary
Day 1
HOLA LIMA!
Welcome to Peru’s chaotic capital city, Lima. Arrive at any time (we can help recommend flights) and we’ll be at the airport ready to pick you up. Get yourself settled into our chic hotel and then why not go for a stroll along the nearby malecón (seaside boardwalk) enjoying the leafy green parks and sweeping Pacific ocean views. In the evening we’ll meet for a welcome dinner where you’ll get to bond with your fellow travellers and learn more about your upcoming trip.

Day 2
CITY BIKE TOUR
Today we’re going to get to know Lima by taking to its bike friendly streets. We’ll explore the Miraflores and Barranco neighbourhoods and gain a real insider perspective from Lima native Franco, who’ll provide the cultural, historical, societal and economic backdrop to this captivating city. Enjoy the stark contrast of modern skyscraper towers, charismatic tranquil neighbourhoods and rugged coastline cliffs. This evening you’ll put Lima’s “foodie” reputation to the test as we head to our absolute favourite restaurant in the city.

Day 3
COOKING UP A STORM
In recent years Lima has emerged as a “culinary powerhouse” of the world and today you’re going to find out exactly why during our Peruvian cooking lesson. We’ll meet with a local chef and accompany him to one of Lima’s legendary fresh food markets to help select ingredients for our meal. We’ll then head back to his trendy ‘cevicheria’ restaurant and learn how to cook our very own ceviche and prepare the infamous pisco sour cocktails. A perfect day of eating, drinking and soaking up Peruvian culture.

Day 4
WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE
Time to leave big city life now and dive headfirst into nature as we make our way to the Amazon Rainforest. After a short 90-minute flight we’ll land into the small Amazonian town of Puerto Maldonado and from here we’ll take an eye-opening boat ride down the Madre de Dio river towards our remote jungle lodge. Take some time to settle in and enjoy your new exotic surroundings – this evening will be our first opportunity to explore the neighbouring jungle as we leave camp to enjoy a night time nature walk.

Day 5
AMAZON ADVENTURE
Get ready for an action packed day of adventure navigating through the stunning Peruvian Amazon. We’ll hike the rainforest of Tambopata National Reserve, canoe the stunning Lake Sandoval and seek out wild animals from high up in tree-top canopies. Keep your eyes peeled for the abundance of wildlife in the vicinity – howler monkeys, caimans, giant river otters, macaws – to name only a few and marvel at the sounds, scents and solitude of this magical slice of earth.

Day 6
SACRED VALLEY
We now swap one natural wonder for another as we catch a 1 hour flight towards Cusco and make our way to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, a wondrous setting located deep in the Peruvian Andes. We’ll spend the day there visiting some of the most spectacular sights in the valley – once home to the ancient inca empire – including the towns of Ollantaytambo, Moray, and the ridiculously cool Salt Mines of Maras (a UNESCO world heritage site). Afterwards we’ll make our way to our rustic countryside hotel for a chilled underneath the stars.

Day 7
FREE DAY
Free day to further explore the Sacred Valley at your own pace. You could go visit the quaint market towns of Pisac or Chinchero. Or if you prefer to get your fix of ancient ruins, there are plenty of additional sights in the valley to rival Machu Picchu. And for the adrenaline junkies in the group there’s an absolute abundance of adventure activities on offer to help really take in your epic surroundings – horse riding, mountain biking, white water rafting or you could even attempt Peru’s longest zip line!

Day 8
HIKE THE INCA TRAIL
Today we take on one of the world’s most epic hikes – the legendary “inca trail”. Built by the inca empire as a way to connect its most important settlements with centres of civilisation the trail is a breathtaking journey filled with inca ruins, cloud forests and majestic valley views. We’ll do the 1 day hike, catching the early morning train from Ollantaytambo to the fabled “kilometer 104” station. From here we’ll begin our 15km (9 mile) ascent towards the “Sun Gate”, where we’ll end our day with the most spectacular view looking down on Machu Picchu. We’ll spend the night in the nearby town of Aguas Calientes.

Day 9
DISCOVER MACHU PICCHU
It’s time to go see exactly what all the fuss is about as today we now get to fully explore one of the ‘new 7 wonders of the world’ – Machu Picchu. We’ll make our way back up to the iconic citadel, this time with a short bus ride, and spend the day there wandering the mystical ruins and learning the fascinating history of the ‘lost city of the incas’. It really is awe inspiring. In the afternoon we’ll make our way by train and bus towards our next destination, the quaint city of Cusco.

Day 10
CHARMING CUSCO
In keeping with the spirit of this relaxed Andean city, we’ll ease our way into the day as we slowly adjust to Cusco’s high altitude (3,400m). The coca tea is going to help! We’ll spend the morning strolling the cobbled streets and taking in the striking colonial architecture along with our local Cusqueño guide who’ll share with us some of his favourite spots. After lunch it’s on to a fun filled afternoon with a chocolate making workshop. Here you’ll use cacao beans straight from the Peruvian jungle and to create your very own signature chocolate. Delicious!

Day 11
FREE DAY
Today is all yours to explore your own personal interests. If you still have some hiking left in you then two fantastic options are nearby day trips to the dazzling Rainbow Mountain or the equally spectacular Humantay Lake. If you prefer to get more of your city fix there’s still plenty more to do in and around Cusco (we’ll share with you our personal favs). For our last evening in Peru we’ll get together for a final group meal and enjoy some of the most traditional food you can find in the Cusco region.

Day 12
SEE YOU LATER
The time has come to say goodbye to this magnificent country (and sadly also to your equally fantastic travel companions). What a blast it has been. From the big city vibe of the energetic Lima, to the deep depths of the Amazon jungle, the otherworldly Machu Picchu and the traditional vibe of picturesque Cusco. You’ve experienced the very best of this magical country and we’re sure that Peru has stolen a special place in your heart. Have a safe journey home and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

What Our Guests Say

“Head and Shoulders Above the Rest”
Having been on numerous group holidays with more than 5 different companies, my standards are high and I can honestly say that Other Way Round is head and shoulders above all of them.
“Not Mass Produced or Touristy”
What I loved about this trip was that it didn’t feel mass produced and touristy. There was a sense of originality to it and uniqueness about the trip and the itinerary.
“Completely Hassle Free”
I usually travel DIY, where I arrange and book everything myself, and it was such a welcome change to have all that time and stress of booking the different elements of the trip taken away from me.
“Trip of a Lifetime”
I will never forget this trip. Not only because of the country itself, but because of the experience that Other Way Round gave me and the other group members. It was a trip of a lifetime and you will be missing out if you don’t just book it!
