Our Route Through Morocco
Itinerary
Day 1
WELCOME TO MOROCCO!
Welcome to Morocco, the land of vibrant souks and bustling medinas, where the intoxicating scents of exotic spices and sizzling street food fill the air! We’ll kick things off in the port city of Casablanca, where you’ll find awesome Arabic architecture around every corner. Forget about any arrival stress, because we’ll pick you up from the airport and take you back to our centrally located hotel! You’ll have time to freshen up after the flight, and maybe even take a wander along the city’s waterfront, before meeting the group tonight for a fun-filled welcome dinner.
Day 2
CASABLANCA + RABAT + VOLUBILIS
Get ready to hit the streets of Casablanca this morning and embark on a tour of the city’s most sensational sights (including the Hassan II Mosque, of course!). Then, we’ll hop aboard our air-conditioned minivan and make our way to Rabat, the capital of Morocco. The best part? The historical centre of Rabat is compact, so it’s easy for us to see its amazing highlights. This afternoon, we have one more surprise up our sleeves – Volubilis, a jaw-dropping UNESCO-listed Roman settlement. After a long day, we’ll arrive in the mesmerising city of Fes, marking the grand finale of our epic road trip!
Day 3
FES MEDINA
Today is all about Fes, the oldest and largest medieval city in the world! Our focus will be the Fes medina, a car-free zone where residents rely on donkeys and bikes. We hope you’ve packed your sense of adventure because we have plenty of palaces and mosques to explore today! (Non-Muslims aren’t allowed to enter the mosques in Morocco, but fear not – they look just as awesome from the outside). Plus, there’s still plenty of excitement to be had exploring the dye pits, tanneries, pharmacy, and pottery shops, not to mention the delicious Moroccan dishes we’ll discover along the way.
Day 4
SAHARA + CAMEL RIDE
Buckle up, because today we’re making the exhilarating journey to the mighty Sahara! We’ll break up the drive with an optional lunch stop, and if the weather’s sizzling, you can cool off with a relaxing swim. Then, it’s time to head to the great Erg Chebbi dunes in Merzouga, where we’ll hop on some camels and trek into the vast Sahara Desert – we bet you’ve never seen the sunset from the back of a camel before! Tonight, we’ll stay at an authentic Berber Camp on the desert’s edge, savouring delicious local food and grooving to traditional music under the stars. It doesn’t get better than this!
Day 5
TODRA GORGE
Join us for a special morning as we visit a local Berber family, known for their legendary hospitality. If you think you’ve tasted tea before, wait till you sip on some authentic Moroccan tea made by this family (it’s out of this world)! Afterwards, we’ll head to the Todra Gorge – Morocco’s answer to the Grand Canyon. Standing at a breathtaking 1000ft, this magnificent gorge is surrounded by towering limestone cliffs that’ll make you feel like you’re in a dream. We’ll then continue to Skoura for a well-earned rest at our boutique hotel.
Day 6
AIT BENHADDOU + OUARZAZATE
This morning we’ll head to an incredible women’s cooperative on the edge of the Dadès Valley. This 40-strong team of hardworking women, most of whom are widows, grow their own crops and transform them into baked goods that will make your tastebuds dance. As we journey to Ait Benhaddou, we’ll stop for lunch in Ouarzazate. Feeling daring? There’s the option to try quad biking! When arriving at Ait Benhaddou, a local guide will meet us to show off the best bits of this UNESCO World Heritage site full of Kasbahs. After a jam-packed day, we’ll move on to Marrakech.
Day 7
MARRAKECH COOKING CLASS
It’s time to explore the magical city of Marrakech! We’ll get to know the city with a thrilling city tour including the Koutoubia Tower, the jewel of Marrakech, and some of the best viewpoints, where you’ll see the Atlas Mountains! No trip to this incredible city would be complete without a visit to the UNESCO-listed medina & Djemâa-el-Fna – a bustling marketplace like no other. As the afternoon rolls around, you’ll have some free time to relax poolside or snap up a few souvenirs before we dive mouth-first into a cooking class in a traditional Moroccan riad in a local’s kitchen!
Day 8
FREE DAY!
Today is totally free for you to spend however you’d like! If you want to get away from the craziness of Marrakech without leaving the city, the Majorelle botanical garden is a lush oasis. Or, if you really feel like kicking back, why not visit a hammam before spending the afternoon poolside, with a drink in hand? (it’s a tough job, but somebody has to do it)! If you’re eager to get out and about, we can arrange for you to hire a bike to explore the city in style! Tonight’s our farewell dinner, so let’s devour some of the best food in Marrakech together to round off our incredible adventure!
Day 9
UNTIL NEXT TIME
After one last group breakfast your epic Moroccan adventure has come to an end. It’s time to say goodbye, for now, to your new group of friends as you reminisce about riding camels through the desert, camping under the stars, and drinking far too much mint tea! One thing is certain – you’ll leave with memories that will last a lifetime. See you next time!

FAQs & Important Notes
Below are some of the common questions we tend to get asked – we’ve answered both in video format (general across all OWR trips) and written format (specific to this particular trip).
SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT THIS TRIP!
Long Driving Distances
One of the absolute highlights of this trip is spending a night in the Sahara Desert in Merzouga—and honestly, if you’re coming to Morocco, we think experiencing the real Sahara is non-negotiable.
The trade-off? It’s remote. Really remote.
Unlike some destinations, you don’t simply pop into the Sahara for an afternoon. Reaching the dunes of Merzouga takes time, which means there are a few longer driving days built into this itinerary. We believe it’s 100% worth it—but we also believe in setting clear expectations upfront.
Approximate drive times:
- Day 2: Casablanca → Fes — 3 hours
- Day 4: Fes → Merzouga (Sahara Desert) — 7–8 hours
- Day 5: Merzouga → Skoura — 5 hours
- Day 6: Skoura → Marrakesh — 4–5 hours
All journeys are in our Sprinter van, and these are never “sit in a van all day” transfers. We break up the drives with regular stops, local lunches, scenic viewpoints, villages, and some of the most dramatic landscapes in Morocco—from mountain passes to palm-filled oases.
A quick note: some tours stay closer to Marrakech and visit the Agafay Desert instead, which involves much less driving. But Agafay is a rocky desert on the city’s doorstep—not the endless golden dunes, star-filled skies, and true Sahara experience you’ll find in Merzouga.
In our opinion: if you’re going to do the desert… do the desert properly.

International flights are not included in the price of our tours. This is something you would book yourself separately.
Which airports should I fly into?
Our trip starts in Casablanca (CMN) and ends in Marrakech (RAK). You should organise your flights accordingly.
Ideally you should arrive at the hotel by 6pm on the first day. This is when we have our welcome meeting and afterwards go for dinner (although if you arrive later it’s fine to catch up).
You can leave at any time on the last day. There are no activities scheduled for that day.
If you need help researching flights, contact us at [email protected] or fill out the contact form on this page.
Are airport transfers included?

(Note – we have limited availability of private rooms, these will be allocated on a first come, first served basis).

Yes, we can book you in for extra days at either our arrival hotel or departure hotel.
This is up to a maximum of 2 days on either side. If for longer, we suggest you book directly with the hotel.
