      Itinerary

      Day 1

      WELCOME TO INDIA!

Welcome to incredible India – a country that’ll capture your heart forever. The trip starts in Delhi, where a friendly face will be waiting to greet you at the airport and take you to your hotel. As you navigate through the chaotic streets of Delhi, with rickshaws, bikes, cars and street vendors all jostling for space on the road, you’ll be glad you’re not driving! Depending on your arrival time, you may have the chance to get a short glimpse of Delhi before meeting the group tonight at your welcome dinner. Let the adventure begin!

      Day 2

      DIVE IN TO DELHI

Get ready for an action-packed day as we head out to Old Delhi, where we’ll wander through winding alleyways and explore the chaotic streets from the back of a rickshaw, marvelling at the iconic buildings that line our path. We’ll visit Khari Baoli, Asia’s largest spice market; Jama Masjid, the oldest mosque in the city; and Sheeshganj Gurudwara, a Sikh temple illuminated in bright colours. To top off an exciting day, we’ll dine at one of the oldest restaurants in Delhi. The second you have your first bite of Mughlai cuisine, you’ll wonder why you’ve never tasted it until now!

      Day 3

      TAJ MAHAL

We’ve made you wait three days for it (sorry!), so by this point you’ll be absolutely bursting with excitement, because today… you visit the world famous Taj Mahal! And yes, it is every bit as amazing as you have imagined. First though, we need to make our way from Delhi to Agra. We travel in our private bus which takes around 4 hrs. Upon arrival we’ll check into the hotel and then spend the full afternoon exploring the Taj. There’ll be a guided tour and then time for you to wander the vast complex at your own pace. That evening we’ll get out and see a bit of Agra itself, heading for a chaat street food crawl. Very tasty!

      Day 4

      RANTHAMBORE NATIONAL PARK

Today we leave Agra behind, but not before visiting our very first fort of the trip – the majestic Agra Fort (aka the Red Fort). This epic red sandstone structure is super impressive and will transport you back to a time when Mughal emperors ruled the city from high above in their dazzling palaces. Speaking of transport, we then hit the road for another long-ish (5 hrs) bus journey to our next stop: Ranthambore National Park. After a few busy days in the hectic cities of India, it’s nice to spend a very chilled evening surrounded by nature in our Haveli style hotel located on on the boundaries of the national park.

      Day 5

      JEEP SAFARI

Named after the 1,000-year-old fort that stands inside the park, Ranthambore was Rajasthan’s first Project Tiger reserve, so keep your eyes peeled (seriously – they’re very tricky to spot)! We’ll head out on two separate (dusk + dawn) Game Drives during our time here, and you might just be lucky enough to spot the tigers! It’s not just about the big cats, though. This park is also home to the sambar, the largest of all Asiatic deer, as well as many rare bird species, marsh crocodiles, pythons, leopards, and sloth bears. Plus the scenery is stunning. We bet you didn’t expect to go on a safari in India!

      Day 6

      THE PINK CITY

Time to hit the road again for the 4-hour bus journey to Jaipur, India’s Pink City. As its name implies, the architecture of Jaipur is mostly a very distinctive pink (well, more like salmon) colour and it really is a visually stunning place characterised by the Hawa Mahal, City Palace, Jantar Mantar and Patrika Gate – this city is a photographer’s dream! Not to mention the Amber Fort – our second of the trip – where we’ll visit after dropping our bags at our hotel. It’s completely different from Agra but equally as impressive. For dinner we are hosted by a local family who prepare us a home cooked meal.

      Day 7

RICKSHAWS, STREET FOOD & DANCE MOVES

Today we explore Jaipur and we can’t think of a better way to do it than to whizz around on rickshaws eating the best local food the city has to offer. We will be led by a social initiative that provides employment to 200 women from low-income households – expect a mouth-watering journey of Jaipur’s best kachoris, lassis, rabris, and kulfis! And if you’re wondering how to burn off all that food, we’ve found the perfect way: tonight you’ll learn to move like the local celebs at our Bollywood dance class! (note: on our Diwali trip this will be replaced with a special Diwali celebration).

      Day 8

      VARANASI + SARNATH

Today we ditch the bus and head to the airport for a short flight to Varanasi, the spiritual capital of India. Thought by many to be the oldest living city in the world, Varanasi is located on the banks of the holy Ganges River and it attracts pilgrims from all over India and the world – this place is a complete switch up and unlike anywhere else you’ll have ever been. We’ll save the river pilgrimage for tomorrow, because today we go somewhere nearby and equally as interesting: Sarnath. This monumental site is the place where Buddha delivered his first sermon, and where Buddhism came into existence!

      Day 9

      SUNRISE ON THE GANGES

The Ganges river is such an enthralling and unique place, that we dedicate a full day here. In the morning we awaken early for a sunrise boat ride, watching the hive of activity on shore: pilgrims doing a spiritual cleanse in the river, locals washing clothes, street vendors selling everything you can imagine, all alongside the cremation of bodies on the ghats (a sacred ritual in Hinduism). It’s a surreal combination of activities you would never expect to see side-by-side. And when the sun is setting, we’ll witness a breathtaking candle flower ceremony and the Ganga Aarti fire ritual offered every evening at Main Ghat.

      Day 10

      CITY OF DREAMS!

While Delhi is the traditional heart of India, Mumbai (formerly known as Bombay) can be thought of as the younger, sexier cousin. It’s the biggest city in India, the commercial and entertainment hub – full of glitz and glamour – but also with extreme contrasts between rich and poor. It is the place where people from every corner of India comes in search of their dreams. We catch a morning flight here from Varanasi and then leave the rest of the day free. You could go visit some of the main city sights or take a more relaxed day to recharge after a fairly hectic schedule.

      Day 11

      BACKSTREETS OF MUMBAI

While Mumbai is known to most for its high rise skyscrapers and plentiful tourist attractions, we’re going to see it in a different light by getting away from the trodden path. We’ll do this by following a Dabbawala – a worker who delivers hot meals to offices around Mumbai (a more traditional version of Uber East if you like) – on his rounds, experiencing all that this frenetic city brings en route. It sounds like a strange concept – and it is – but it’s a very unique way to experience Mumbai from a locals perspective and you will get a sense of the real life India.

      Day 12

      BEACH VIBES!

In yet another complete contrast (yes – India is super diverse), today we swap the big city energy, for something altogether more relaxed as we take a short flight to the lush beaches of Goa. This place is a lovely fusion of Indian and Portuguese cultures and packs in lots of sun, sea and spirituality – the perfect spot to start winding down our India trip. After a short flight from Mumbai we’ll arrive at our hotel and then the rest of the day is yours. You could chill by the hotel pool, grab a cocktail and head for the beach, or go explore everything Goa has to offer.

      Day 13

      YOGA + OLD GOA

As we awaken to our tropical paradise, we’ll start the day slowly with a morning yoga session. Afterwards we’ll enjoy a leisurely breakfast before leaving the beach for a while (sorry!) and doing a whistle stop tour of Old Goa: the UNESCO World Heritage Site located by the Mandovi River and often referred to as ‘Rome of the East’. It’s our last full day in India and we can’t think of a better way to end this epic trip than doing one final group dinner together and toasting to the amazing experiences we’ve shared.

      Day 14

      SEE YOU NEXT TIME

As our incredible journey through India comes to an end, it’s hard to believe all the amazing things we’ve done together! We’ve seen the iconic Taj Mahal, gone on thrilling safaris, tasted delicious cuisine, visited sacred sites, and so much more – all while making unforgettable memories with a group of new friends. Saying goodbye is never easy, so let’s just say “see you next time”!

We know that accommodation is important to you and it’s important to us too. We therefore seek out stylish boutique hotels, normally 4-star, and filled with local character. Here’s a selection of the hotels we typically use with this itinerary.

“Head and Shoulders Above the Rest”

Having been on numerous group holidays with more than 5 different companies, my standards are high and I can honestly say that Other Way Round is head and shoulders above all of them.

      “Not Mass Produced or Touristy”

What I loved about this trip was that it didn’t feel mass produced and touristy. There was a sense of originality to it and uniqueness about the trip and the itinerary.

      “Completely Hassle Free”

I usually travel DIY, where I arrange and book everything myself, and it was such a welcome change to have all that time and stress of booking the different elements of the trip taken away from me.

      “Trip of a Lifetime”

I will never forget this trip. Not only because of the country itself, but because of the experience that Other Way Round gave me and the other group members. It was a trip of a lifetime and you will be missing out if you don’t just book it!
