Time to get up close and personal to the sizzling urban sprawl that is Medellin. We’ll catch the city’s modern metro system and do a whistle-stop tour of ‘El Centro’ before stopping for a hearty lunch at one of Medellin’s most historical restaurants. Afterwards, you’ll visit Comuna 13 to witness first-hand the impressive social transformation taking place in the city’s most notoriously dangerous zone – it’s humbling, inspiring and fascinating all rolled into one!

The afternoon is then free for you to explore, whether that’s enjoying a scenic boat ride, doing water sports, or simply wandering the quirky town’s vibrant streets.

Or you could go to the museum ‘Casa de La Memoria’ to learn more about the victims of Colombia’s 50-year armed conflict. Or for more adrenalin filled action there’s the option to paraglide in the surrounding mountains. In the evening we’ll regroup to enjoy a fun and energetic Colombian Salsa lesson.

It’s time to head back for one last night in the buzzing city of Medellin. Along the way we’ll stop off for some lunch and a game of Tejo, which let’s just say involves beer, gunpowder and a ridiculous amount of laughter. Later in the evening you’ll go to our personal favourite restaurant in the city and afterwards it’s time to sample the pulsating nightlife – la rumba – in its full weekend glory. Tonight would be a perfect time to test out those new found Salsa moves!

Following a short 1-hour flight, you’ll swap the sweeping Andes mountains for the sparkling Caribbean coast. After checking in to the hotel, the afternoon is yours to explore the utterly charming Cartagena at your leisure. In the evening we’ll enjoy a very unique (and socially impactful) dining experience in Cartagena’s old town.

We’ll swim, dance, sunbathe, enjoy the freshest seafood lunch and bask in the pristine beaches and crystal clear sea. Just make sure you save some of your energy for later. In the evening we have Champeta (Afro-Caribbean) dance class and afterwards you may want to hit up the local bar scene to try out your new moves.

If mud baths are your thing, you could venture out to the Totum mud volcano. Or, simply relax by the pool with a cocktail and take in the coastal view from above. Later, we’ll regroup over a spot of rum tasting and then it’s time for a chiva rumbera (a uniquely Colombian experience which involves a bus, live music, a dancefloor, and even more rum)!

Our hotel is located in the most gorgeous, tranquil, setting just outside the park amidst the lush Colombian jungle. Upon arrival it’s all about relaxation. You can enjoy the pool, outdoor jacuzzi, sauna, steam room – and if that’s not quite enough – we’ve also hooked you up with a massage.

        A DAY IN PARADISE

We can’t think of many better feelings than waking up knowing you’re going to spend the day inside the exotic, otherworldly Tayrona national park. It’s epic! We’ll make our way to the postcard-worthy beach of Cabo San Juan by hiking through dense Colombian rainforests and along rugged coastal paths to spend a few hours basking by the sun-drenched shores (there’s also the option of the much tougher jungle hike which passes through “Pueblito” – a hidden indigenous village).

        SALT CATHEDRAL

Today, we’ll sample Colombian life outside the urban sprawl by heading to the neighboring and much smaller town of Zipaquira – famous locally for its hugely impressive underground salt cathedral. Trust us; this is WAY cooler than it sounds! We’ll spend a relaxing day first visiting the cathedral and then exploring the town. For our last evening in Colombia we’ll share a group dinner in a legendary (and lively) Bogota restaurant full of music, color and awesome food.

You’ve danced salsa, & champeta, drank rum, hiked jungles, swam pristine oceans, felt the buzz of mega cities, discovered hidden pueblos, mingled with locals, eat awesome food, learned about Colombia’s painful past and shared all of this with some amazing people along the way.  After one final breakfast, we’ll take you to the airport in Bogota to begin your journey home.

“Head and Shoulders Above the Rest”

Having been on numerous group holidays with more than 5 different companies, my standards are high and I can honestly say that Other Way Round is head and shoulders above all of them.

        “Not Mass Produced or Touristy”

What I loved about this trip was that it didn’t feel mass produced and touristy. There was a sense of originality to it and uniqueness about the trip and the itinerary.

        “Completely Hassle Free”

I usually travel DIY, where I arrange and book everything myself, and it was such a welcome change to have all that time and stress of booking the different elements of the trip taken away from me.

        “Trip of a Lifetime”

I will never forget this trip. Not only because of the country itself, but because of the experience that Other Way Round gave me and the other group members. It was a trip of a lifetime and you will be missing out if you don’t just book it!
