    Itinerary

    Day 1

    HOLA COLOMBIA!

Bienvenido a Medellin, the city of eternal spring. Arrive at any time (we can help recommend flights) and we’ll be at the airport ready to take you back to your hotel. Unpack, relax, settle-in and then why not go for a wander to explore your new exotic surroundings. In the evening we’ll meet for a welcome introduction and then enjoy a group dinner so you can get to know better your fellow travellers.

    Day 2

    MEZMERIZING MEDELLIN

Time to get up close and personal to the sizzling urban sprawl that is Medellin. We’ll catch the city’s modern metro system and do a whistle-stop tour of ‘El Centro’ before stopping for a hearty lunch at one of Medellin’s most historical restaurants. Afterwards, you’ll visit Comuna 13 to witness first-hand the impressive social transformation taking place in the city’s most notoriously dangerous zone – it’s humbling, inspiring and fascinating all rolled into one!

    Day 3

    COLORFUL GUATAPE

Today we’ll head to the nearby town of Guatape – the most colorful pueblo in Colombia. In the morning we’ll climb the 765 steps to the top of La Piedra, a huge monolithic rock providing jaw-dropping panoramic views over the utterly spectacular Guatape reservoir. The afternoon is then free for you to explore, whether that’s enjoying a scenic boat ride, doing water sports, or simply wandering the quirky town’s vibrant streets.

    Day 4

    TO THE JUNGLE!

Time to say goodbye to Medellin and make the journey towards Parque Nacional Tayrona (it’s a short flight and then a bus ride). Our hotel is located in the most gorgeous, tranquil, setting just outside the park amidst the lush Colombian jungle. Upon arrival it’s all about relaxation. You can enjoy the pool, outdoor jacuzzi, sauna, steam room – and if that’s not quite enough – we’ve also hooked you up with a massage.

    Day 5

    A DAY IN PARADISE

We can’t think of many better feelings than waking up knowing you’re going to spend the day inside the exotic, otherworldly Tayrona national park. It’s epic! We’ll make our way to the postcard-worthy beach of Cabo San Juan by hiking through dense Colombian rainforests and along rugged coastal paths to spend a few hours basking by the sun-drenched shores. Afterwards, we’ll hike back – hopefully spotting some monkeys en route – and reward ourselves with a well deserved cocktail by the pool.

    CARIBBEAN VIBES

It’s time to hit the road again as we take a 5hr bus ride to the beautiful coastal city of Cartagena. It’s the perfect chance to get some rest and recharge for the next part of the trip. Upon arrival we’ll check into our hotel in the Getsemani area and then do a short walk together to get your bearings. The rest of the day is then yours at your leisure. You could take a dip in our infinity pool, explore the UNESCO heritage Old Town, watch the sunset from the city walls or drink some cocktails at a rooftop bar. We recommend doing all of the above!

    TROPICAL ISLAND HOPPING

Today we’re hiring our very own private speedboat and setting off for some island-hopping around the very tropical Rosario Islands. We’ll swim, dance, sunbathe, enjoy the freshest seafood lunch and bask in the pristine beaches and crystal clear sea. Just make sure you save some of your energy for later. This evening we’re starting with rum tasting and then we hit up a chiva rumbera (a uniquely Colombian experience which involves a bus, live music, a dancefloor, and even more rum)!

    EXPLORING CARTAGENA

Free day! You could head out of town to the nearby Bazurto market or Palenque village to get a better perspective of real life Colombia. If mud baths are your thing, you could venture out to the Totum mud volcano. Or, simply relax by the pool with a cocktail and take in the coastal view from above. For our last evening together we’re going out with a bang with our Champeta (Afro-Caribbean) dance class. It’s seriously amazing fun! We’ll round off the day with one final group dinner.

    Day 9

    ADIOS

All good things must come to an end, and the time has come to say goodbye. But think of all the incredible things you’ve done. You’ve danced champeta, drank rum, hiked jungles, swam pristine oceans, felt the buzz of mega cities, mingled with locals, eat awesome food, learned about Colombia’s painful past and shared all of this with some amazing people along the way.  After one final breakfast, we’ll take you to the airport to begin your journey home.

    “What Are You Waiting For”

If you’re the sort of person who likes to experience the true essence of a country, learn about its history, meet the locals, try the food (and drink!) and give something back, then frankly what are you waiting for?!

    “Way Too Many Laughs”

We had an excellent mix of people within the group and we had a lot of laughs along the way! I would be surprised if there are many (if any) tours better than Other Way Round.

    “We Had a Fantastic Group”

The group I was with were fantastic. All different in our own ways, but with the same like-minded approach to the trip. This meant a lot of fun and laughter along the way!

“Know All the Local Places to Go”

What is especially great about OWR is that the tour guides are also your age. They really feel part of the group – just the super organized ones who handle all the details and know the local places to go!
