Itinerary
Day 1
HOLA COLOMBIA!
Bienvenido a Cartagena! Arrive at any time (we can help recommend flights) and we’ll be at the airport waiting to whisk you back to exclusive hotel. Unpack, relax, settle-in and then why not go for a wander to explore the utterly charming Old Town of Cartagena. In the evening we’ll meet for a welcome introduction and then you’ll get to know your fellow travelers over a unique (and socially impactful) dining experience in Cartagena’s old town.

Day 2
TROPICAL ISLAND HOPPING
Today we’re hiring our very own private speedboat and setting off for some island-hopping around the very tropical Rosario Islands. We’ll swim, dance, sunbathe, enjoy the freshest seafood lunch and bask in the pristine beaches and crystal clear sea. Just make sure you save some of your energy for later. In the evening we have Champeta (Afro-Caribbean) dance class and afterwards you may want to hit up the local bar scene to try out your new moves.

Day 3
EXPLORING CARTAGENA
Free day! You could head out of town to the nearby Bazurto market or Palenque village to get a better perspective of real life Colombia. If mud baths are your thing, you could venture out to the Totum mud volcano. Or, simply relax by the pool with a cocktail and take in the coastal view from above. Later, we’ll regroup over a spot of rum tasting and then it’s time for a chiva rumbera (a uniquely Colombian experience which involves a bus, live music, a dancefloor, and even more rum)!

Day 4
CHILL DAY
Time to say goodbye to Cartagena and make the 4-hour bus journey towards Parque Nacional Tayrona (it’s a great opportunity to catch up on sleep after a few late nights). Our hotel is located in the most gorgeous, tranquil, setting just outside the park amidst the lush Colombian jungle. Upon arrival it’s all about relaxation. You can enjoy the pool, outdoor jacuzzi, sauna, steam room – and if that’s not quite enough – we’ve also hooked you up with a massage.

Day 5
A DAY IN PARADISE
We can’t think of many better feelings than waking up knowing you’re going to spend the day inside the exotic, otherworldly Tayrona national park. It’s epic! We’ll make our way to the postcard-worthy beach of Cabo San Juan by hiking through dense Colombian rainforests and along rugged coastal paths to spend a few hours basking by the sun-drenched shores (there’s also the option of the much tougher jungle hike which passes through “Pueblito” – a hidden indigenous village).

Day 6
COLOMBIA’S BUSTLING CAPITAL
It’s time for a change of scene, so we’ll make our way to the Santa Marta airport for the short (1 hour) flight to Colombia’s bustling capital, Bogota. After checking into the hotel, we’ll make our way to Monserrate mountain where we’ll ride the metrocable to the top to take in the utterly spectacular panoramic views over the gigantic Bogota. We’ll then stroll towards the charming old town – La Candelaria – to feel first-hand the vibe of Colombia’s cool capital.

Day 7
ZIPAQUIRA
Today, we’ll sample Colombian life outside the urban sprawl by heading to the neighboring and much smaller town of Zipaquira – famous locally for its hugely impressive underground salt cathedral. Trust us; this is WAY cooler than it sounds! We’ll spend a relaxing day first visiting the cathedral and then exploring the town. For our last evening in Colombia we’ll share a group dinner in a legendary (and lively) Bogota restaurant full of music, color and awesome food.

Day 8
ADIOS
All good things must come to an end, and the time has come to say goodbye. But think of all the incredible things you’ve done. You’ve danced champeta, drank rum, hiked jungles, swam pristine oceans, felt the buzz of mega cities, mingled with locals, eat awesome food, learned about Colombia’s painful past and shared all of this with some amazing people along the way. After one final breakfast, we’ll take you to the airport in Bogota to begin your journey home.

Hotels
We know that accommodation is important to you and it’s important to us too. We therefore seek out stylish boutique hotels, normally 4-star, and filled with local character. Here’s a selection of the hotels we typically use with this itinerary.

Kantawa, Parque Tayrona
Remote jungle location. Reconnect with nature. Luxurious spa facilities.
B3 Virrey, Bogota
Hip city vibe. Cool in-house bar with live music. Located at the heart of the action.

Armeria Real, Cartagena
Exquisite colonial architecture. Cool and spacious rooms. Sipping cocktails by rooftop pool.

Testimonials

“What Are You Waiting For”
If you’re the sort of person who likes to experience the true essence of a country, learn about its history, meet the locals, try the food (and drink!) and give something back, then frankly what are you waiting for?!
“Way Too Many Laughs”
We had an excellent mix of people within the group and we had a lot of laughs along the way! I would be surprised if there are many (if any) tours better than Other Way Round.
“We Had a Fantastic Group”
The group I was with were fantastic. All different in our own ways, but with the same like-minded approach to the trip. This meant a lot of fun and laughter along the way!
“Know All the Local Places to Go”
What is especially great about OWR is that the tour guides are also your age. They really feel part of the group – just the super organized ones who handle all the details and know the local places to go!
