      Day 2

      SOUTH AMERICA’S MEGA CITY

Today we explore the concrete jungle that is São Paulo – the largest city in South America. We’ll be accompanied by our “Paulistano” friend (as the locals are known) who’ll share her own personal experiences of living in this complex, eclectic and diverse city. You’ll visit the colourful and pretty Old Town and then the more modern epicentre of Paulista Avenue – learning about the history and culture of the Brazilian people and what life is really like for locals today. In the evening we’ll treat ourselves to a feast of epic proportions when we head to dinner at one of the city’s infamous “Churrascarias” (Brazilian barbeque).

      Day 3

      COLONIAL PARATY

It’s time to swap city life for something more tranquil as we make the 4hr bus ride north towards Paraty – a colonial town filled with elegant architecture and cobbled streets, set against the exquisite backdrop of lush mountains and an island-studded bay. Now it’s time to unwind. After lunch we’ll spend the afternoon with a gentle hike through the nearby Atlantica rainforest – learning about the “Gold Trail” – and stopping off for a dip in some natural swimming holes and ‘surfing’ the Cachoeira do Tobogã waterfall. We’ll finish a fantastic day with a Cachaça (Brazilian rum) tasting session at a nearby sugarcane plantation.

      Day 4

      KAYAKING + CAPOEIRA

An action packed day of fun filled activities in and around Paraty. We’ll spend the morning kayaking the warm clear waters of the picturesque bay, stopping off at tropical islands and exploring deserted beaches as we go And then, in the afternoon, it’s a change of scene as we try out some Capoeira! You’ll learn all about the history and culture of this Afro-Brazilian martial-art while (hopefully) giving it a go yourself! In the evening we’re off to visit a nearby organic farm where to enjoy a superb ‘farm-to-table’ dining experience.

      Day 5

      TROPICAL ILHA GRANDE

Time to go even more remote as today we head further up the Brazilian coastline to the picture perfect island paradise of Ilha Grande (yes – it really is that spectacular)! We’ll spend one final morning in Paraty before making our way to Angra dos Reis to catch the late afternoon ferry to the “Big Island”. A short journey later we’ll arrive at our home for the next few days: a place surrounded by turquoise waters, white sandy beaches and totally immersed in nature. It’s the perfect time to lay on a hammock, sip a caipirinha and watch the sun set.

      Day 6

      JUNGLE HIKE TO BEACH

Today we’re getting active as we hike our way from the small port in Abraao to the stunning Lopes Mendes beach. The route combines dense jungle trails with sandy beach paths and you’ll be treated to stunning island views along the way. We’ll pass through three separate beaches – Palmas, Pouso & Mangue – before finally arriving at our destination (and yes, we saved the best for last). The reward for your efforts is to spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing at this postcard worthy beach before we make our way back (this time by boat)!

      Day 7

      RELAX IN PARADISE

Today is yours to spend however you like. If you enjoyed yesterday’s hike then the island is awash with several equally epic trails to explore, taking in many waterfalls, lookout points and (yes)! more beaches. If you’d rather spend time in the water then there’s the option of surfing, snorkelling or stand up paddle board. There are also many boat tours if you like the idea of a spot of island hopping. Alternatively, you could choose to simply relax, recharge and take advantage of the slow pace of island life.

      Day 8

      RIO DE JANEIRO !

We definitely saved the best till last – the world’s most epic city – Rio de Janeiro! Known locally as the ‘Cidade Maravilhosa’ (Marvelous City) it’s an absolutely captivating place, oozing with energy, and spoiled with an abundance of iconic landmarks. We’ll spend the morning travelling – by boat and bus – and arrive at our trendy beachside hotel mid-afternoon. The rest of the day is yours to explore the golden sandy shores of the nearby Ipanema and Copacabana and experience first-hand the full throttle carnival atmosphere of Brazil’s most famous beaches.

      Day 9

      BIKE + SUGARLOAF COCKTAILS

Today we’re going to get out and explore this vast city by taking advantage of Rio’s extensive bike lanes. We’ll spend the morning visiting (more) beaches, traditional neighbourhoods, the historic centre and then cruising through hidden back streets. You’ll get a sense of what locals do when they’re not at the beach! Late afternoon we’ll make our way towards Sugarloaf mountain and catch the cable car to the top of the best lookout point in Rio – Pão de Açúcar. It’s the perfect time to sip on a cocktail and watch the sunset over the sublime Guanabara Bay.

      Day 10

      EXPLORE PULSATING RIO

In a city with so much to offer, today is yours to indulge in your own personal interests. You could take in some different neighbourhoods  – Pedro do Sal (Little Africa), hip and happening Botafogo, or bohemian Santa Teresa. You could go get lost in the gigantic Tijuca Forest. Or enjoy one of the many awesome hikes in the surrounding hills. There’s the impressive Museum of Tomorrow or what about hang gliding over the bay for a bird’s eye view? And don’t forget about the Christ the Redeemer (you gotta do it)! Or, you could simply decide to chill by the pool and enjoy a well deserved break.

      Day 11

      FAVELA + SAMBA !

An important part of the story of Rio lives in its favelas and today we visit the largest in all of Latin America. We will be guided by a local resident who will give us the inside story of life and culture inside the favela. We’ll learn about the many challenges faced by locals, but also witness first-hand the vibrancy and positive sense of community often unexpected to outsiders. It’s an eye-opening experience which helps to break down stereotypes. For our final evening in Rio we’re going out in style as we take a samba lesson and learn more about the rhythm and sound which defines the city.

      Day 12

      UNTIL NEXT TIME BRAZIL

Sadly, your Brazilian adventure has now come to an end but we hope you’ve had a trip to remember (and met some amazing friends along the way). From the mega-city of São Paulo to the favelas of Rio we’ve packed a whole lot in. You’ve hiked rainforests, kayaked tropical waters, danced samba, and even tried your hand at Capoeira. There’s been beach after beach (after beach), charming colonial towns, breathtaking views and the tastiest food (and rum) that Brazil has to offer. Until next time.

“Head and Shoulders Above the Rest”

Having been on numerous group holidays with more than 5 different companies, my standards are high and I can honestly say that Other Way Round is head and shoulders above all of them.

      “Not Mass Produced or Touristy”

What I loved about this trip was that it didn’t feel mass produced and touristy. There was a sense of originality to it and uniqueness about the trip and the itinerary.

      “Completely Hassle Free”

I usually travel DIY, where I arrange and book everything myself, and it was such a welcome change to have all that time and stress of booking the different elements of the trip taken away from me.

      “Trip of a Lifetime”

I will never forget this trip. Not only because of the country itself, but because of the experience that Other Way Round gave me and the other group members. It was a trip of a lifetime and you will be missing out if you don’t just book it!
